Adding to the beautiful surrounding scenery in Heidelberg is an old monastery.  It makes for a lovely walk to take on a nice day.
Across the Neckar River and far above the castle is the "Koenigstuhl," the king's throne, essentially just an amazing view all the way across the Rhine.  If you have a lot of time, it might be good exercise to walk down, but I would definitely recommend taking the tram up!

The Bergbahn, that takes you 2/3 to Koenigstuhl (or just to the castle, if you are too lazy to walk)
